Pauline Letter, The
Outline: The authors identify the opportunities available to exegete for making Pauline/Paulinist theology intelligible as a coherent understanding of the Christian faith. In doing so, they offer constructive ways for determining the meaning of Paul's letters in the first century, in order to move toward their meaning for today. Comparing representative passages from the letters traditionally attributed to Paul, the authors distinguish between the seven generally accepted as being from Paul himself and the six that some scholars believe to be the work of later writers. The authors point out specific passages that clarify Paul's thought, highlight his contributions, and advance apostolic authority and tradition.
