Forgotten Songs : Reclaiming the Psalms for Christian Worship
Outline: In many churches today, the psalms have been forgotten. They are still read, perhaps, but their rich history as the backbone of Christian worship - from the earliest days of the church through the nineteenth century - is unknown. In this, the contemporary church is out of step with our forebears in the faith; we are the oddity in church history. And we suffer for it. Forgotten Songs seeks to reclaim the psalms for private and corporate worship. The contributors, both pastors and scholars, examine the biblical and historical foundations for the use of the psalms in worship and consider specific ways of employing the psalms in our worship. From corporate singing, to praying publicly and privately, to pastoral care and the place of lament, these chapters aim to help others reclam the psalms for Christian worship.
