Trishaul to Trinity : K. N. Nambudripad and I : An Indo-American Christian Psychiatrist’s Account of Heritage, History, Healing, Faith, and Dharma
Outline: Dr. Ernest Chander, an Indian Christian who grew up in the mountains of Himachel in India's far northwest, began writing Trishul to Trinity as a short memorial to a beloved mentor and colleague, Dr. K. N. Nambudripad, a Hindu convert to Christianity. The two met each other at the Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India, when Dr. Chander was a medical student and KNN< as he was called, was a professor of surgical neurology. Against a backdrop of the incredible diversities and extremes of both India of the East and the United States of the West, the memorial is more than a recollection of Drs. Chander's and KNN's personal and national pasts and their international and cross-cultural experiences. It is also more than a tribute to the selfless nurses, doctros, and administrators of diverse backgrounds at CMC and the many friends, relatives, and public figures who enriched Dr. Chander's religious life and broadened his medical expertise. Dr. Chander's conceptual model of Trishul to Trinity incorporates the symbols of the world's major religions as a devise for him to explain the relationship of these religions to Christianity and to proclaim his central message - the glory of God as revealed in Jesus Christ. Joyfully, "without shame and reservation," he shares his conviction that conversion to the Christian faith, as exemplified by K.N. Nambudripad's life, is not a personal achievement but a gift from God and the solution to humanity's quest for peace and harmony.
