Late Medieval Mysticism
This volume presents a collection of sources marking the culmination of mystical thought within medieval Christianity. These works are supplied from already existing, reputable translations appropriately acknowledged throughout the book. The chief editorial objective has been a distinctive resetting, in clarified historical perspective, of the richly varied, but closely related, texts of late medieval mysticism. The volume editor has attempted a fresh orientation of representative sources with regard to each other and to the long ages of the mystical tradition that preceded them. An extensive general introduction has been followed by brief biographical data, crisp annotations of source-secondary literature, and terse summations of the more characteristic thought prefatory to the writings of each mystic. Biblical translations are integrated in each case with the entire source text. Though free of copyright restrictions they are not reducible to the usage of one or even a few versions. In the more crucial notes, there are references to both the Vulgate and Protestant numberings when these are divergent.
