Non Fiction
Demthologizing & History
Overview: Here is a lively and acute investigation of the implications involved in the assertion, so commonly made, that Christianity is rooted in historical events. The author sees the problem of the relation of Christian faith to 'history' as one of the most important of our day. Indeed 'histor' as a crucial problem of human existence has arisen with the Christian faith, and as a consequence of that faith. The author finds in Bultmann one of the few living theologians who realizes this truth, and argues that the 'demythologization controversy', associated with him, is directly related to the task of clarifying the historical reality upon which Christian belief rests. In this way the author succeeds in raising the controversy above the level of the banalities of party strife, and calls for serious judgment.
