God Speaks To Man: Revelation and the Bible
Outline: The Bible - "lost word" or "last word"? Although noting that both Bible study and biblical knowledge have increased tremendously, the author still declares, "Our churches suffer from a widespread 'famine of hearing the words of the Lord.'" He blames this, in part, on our so-called "scientific" and "rasionalistic" approach to biblical criticism. He points out that holding "critical" views of the Bible "always impoverishes the life of faith." Such views either water faith down to "mere morality in a context of vague optimism," or jazz it up into a "tortured existentialist leap in the dark" - or do both together. What is needed, he urges, is a return to the historic conviction that what Scripture says, God says. His book provides a mental and spiritual preparation for conforming to this Reformed approach, and an incentive for studying the Bible not so "critically," but a lot more inspirationally!
