International Calvinism 1451 - 1715
Outline : Calvinism was a movement of major importance in Europe and North America during the early modern period, leaving an enduring stamp on western civilization. Its character, course, and consequences have long been the subjects of controversy, but new evidence and many specialized studies emerging in recent years now allow much greater precision in the study of the movement.
In this book fourteen eminent historians from England, Wales, Scotland, France, Switzerland, and Israel have collaborated to re-examine the ways in which Calvinism affected and was affected by the very different societies in which it took root, from North America to East Central Europe. It includes an authoritative survey of Calvin's life and work, and a stimulating contribution to the debate on relations between Calvinism and capitalism.
