Chalcedonian No More : A Reformed Ciritique of the Barthian Christology of Bruce L. McCormack
Outline: In recent discussions, Karl Barth's Christology has been described as "Chalcedonian." These discussions are both challenging and stimulating to the church's understanding of Christology and afford an opportunity to sharpen its understanding of the Bible's teaching on Christ's person. However, the Barthian Christology of Bruce McCormack is not Chalcedonian because it rejects the eternal Son. The church, instead, needs to follow the Chalcedonian Christology of Hodge, Bavinck, and Van Til because what is at stake in these conversations is the gospel. As Cornelius Van Til said, if the free, independent, self-contained triune God is rejected there is no gospel to preach.
